Query TradingView market data through the bundled tradingview MCP server without a desktop app or login. Use whenever the user wants a technical analysis readout (RSI, MACD, Bollinger rating, BUY/SELL summary), multi-timeframe alignment (weekly→daily→4h→1h→15m), exchange-wide scans (Bollinger squeeze, volume breakout, consecutive candles, smart volume), top gainers/losers by exchange, futures market data (NQ/ES/CL/GC overview, overnight movers, category snapshots), pre-market / after-hours quotes, a quick options chain or unusual options activity (volume/OI by strike), bulk stock prices, a global market snapshot, strategy backtests (Sharpe, drawdown, win rate), or crypto exchange scans. Triggers include "TA on X", "multi-timeframe read", "BB squeeze scan", "futures movers", "NQ overnight", "pre-market price", "unusual options activity", "backtest RSI on AAPL", and "top gainers on NASDAQ". For options greeks, watchlists, alerts, or chart screenshots use tradingview-reader instead.

TradingView MCP — An AI Market Data and Technical Analysis Tool Without a Desktop Client

Skill Overview

TradingView MCP is a skill that queries TradingView market data directly through a built-in MCP server. Without requiring a desktop application or an account, it can retrieve quotes for stocks, futures, options, and cryptocurrencies; provide technical indicator readings such as RSI, MACD, and Bollinger Bands; analyze trend alignment across multiple time frames; scan the entire market; and return strategy backtesting results.

Use Cases

  1. Technical analysis of individual securities: Quickly check the current RSI, MACD, Bollinger Band ratings, and summarized buy/sell signals for a stock or cryptocurrency, or verify whether trends across weekly → daily → 4h → 1h → 15m time frames are aligned and confirming one another.
  2. Full-market screening and market monitoring: Scan exchanges for Bollinger Band squeeze candidates, volume-price breakouts, and consecutive bullish/bearish candles; view top gainers and losers; check pre-market and after-hours movers in U.S. stocks; and track overnight futures such as NQ, ES, crude oil, and gold.
  3. Strategy validation and capital positioning: Backtest nine classic strategies based on RSI, Bollinger Bands, MACD, and other indicators, with metrics including the Sharpe ratio, maximum drawdown, and win rate; scan options chains for unusual changes in volume/open interest ahead of earnings to gauge market positioning.

Core Features

  1. Technical analysis readings: coin_analysis outputs RSI, MACD, Bollinger Band ratings, and a summary of indicator-based buy/sell signals for an individual stock or cryptocurrency; multi_timeframe_analysis reports trend alignment from the weekly time frame down to 15 minutes. It covers U.S. stocks, cryptocurrencies, and major exchanges worldwide.
  2. Market data and full-market scanning: Batch quotes for up to 1,000 symbols per request, global market snapshots, U.S. pre-market and after-hours prices, gainers and losers, Bollinger Band squeeze and volume-price breakout scans, as well as futures category overviews, overnight movers, and exchange-level cryptocurrency scans.
  3. Options lookup and strategy backtesting: Query U.S. options chains—including strike price, bid/ask prices, volume, open interest, and implied volatility—and identify unusual trading activity. Backtest nine strategies using historical data and view the Sharpe ratio, maximum drawdown, and win rate; compare results with buy-and-hold and perform walk-forward testing to help detect overfitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a TradingView account or desktop client?

No. This skill uses TradingView’s public scanner API and Yahoo Finance, calling them directly through the MCP server included with the plugin. Most tools require no API key. It requires uv and Python 3.10–3.13 to run, and the automatic installation during the first call takes approximately 30 seconds.

Can it retrieve options Greeks?

No. The options chain in this skill provides only strike prices, bid/ask prices, volume, open interest, and implied volatility. It does not include delta, gamma, theta, or vega. Watchlists, price alerts, and chart screenshots are also outside its scope. For these needs, use the companion tradingview-reader skill, which requires the TradingView desktop application.

Will it place trades for me? Can I trust the backtesting results?

No. This skill is completely read-only and will not place orders or modify any account. Backtesting results are historical simulations. The output identifies the date range, time frame, and benchmark, and is intended only to evaluate historical strategy characteristics; it does not constitute a forecast of returns or investment advice.
